I'm trying to stream my local webcam using FFMPEG. For test purposes, I'm doing this locally and try to open the stream using VLC (3.0.8, Windows 10). This is how I stream from FFMPEG: ffmpeg -f dshow -i video=Microsoft Camera Front -preset fast -s 1280x720 -vcodec libx264 -tune ssim -b 500k -f mpegts udp://127.0.0.1:123 How to http stream FFMPEG encoded frames with VLC. 1. I have a python script that write images (numpy arrays) on the standard output. I want to keep this frames and encode them h264 with FFMPEG, using GPU, then give it to vlc to expose a stream over http. Here there's a working example of my apporach, without the part of h264 encoding

Even VLC can pick up the stream from ffmpeg, then redistribute it, acting as a server. Since FFmpeg is at times more efficient than VLC at doing the raw encoding, this can be a useful option compared to doing both transcoding and streaming in VLC 3 thoughts on Streaming to YouTube Live with VLC and FFMPEG Páll Zoltán November 4, 2016 at 7:57 pm. 1. So I need 3 different computers, with the first I stream to Youtube and record multicast with ffmpeg the 1080p, with the second I write the stream to a file, with the third I reduce it to 720p and stream udp to VLC. Looks crazy
  2. g with FFMPEG alone required that I send the stream to any receivers directly, which meant that I had to know exactly what computers would be monitoring the feed. I also liked that using FFSERVER allowed me to view the stream in VLC
  3. Structure of stream output. Stream output is the name of the feature of VLC media player that allows to output any stream read by VLC to a file or as a network stream instead of displaying it. Different kind of processing can be applied to the stream during this process (transcoding, re-scaling, filters, re-muxing)
  4. The mpeg2video container also supports h.264, but only ffplay plays the stream properly with low latency. OBS demuxer adds huge latency to such stream and VLC wouldn't even play it. I tried using VLC, as OBS also support VLC libraries, but it turns out that VLC has some demuxing latencies for mpegts
  5. I took a look at your logs, and FFmpeg is reporting getting a large number of duplicate frames from your camera. Odd that FFmpeg would get that if VLC is playing the stream fine though. The MaxFPS setting shouldn't cause any problems, since as far as FFmpeg sees, your camera just keeps sending the same image over and over

So why they are still using outdated QuickTime? darkhog, Mar 5, 2015 #1

I just needed to record a video stream. Usually, I use mplayer for these kinds of jobs, but this time it failed. However, on the internet I found a way to do it using VLC, which apparently has quite a command line interface tells it to stream the output to a file, in mpeg-ts format, with a file name of test.ts in the Videos/record folder. Finally: Code: --run-time=30 vlc://quit. tells it to run for 30 seconds and then quit. 1 & 3 work perfectly There are the 3 stages that build up the Stream: Capture, Encode and Go Live.
